Murano glass is composed mainly of 70% pure silica sand from France or the Sahara desert with a melting temperature of about 1100 degrees Celsius and mixed for the remainder with soda, lime, potassium, antimony, sodium nitrate.
With the addition of metal oxides, the wonderful colours for which Murano glass is famous and known throughout the world are obtained:
from cobalt we obtain blue, from copper we get the most beautiful emerald green, from manganese we get the most precious shiny black and from selenium the famous ruby red
it takes on different colours.
The mixing doses are clearly handed down by generations of Murano glass masters from father to son.
